Italian Classes at IIS

Our focus is on providing students with the best possible environment to learn Italian from the very first class. Instructors are all native Italian speakers with degrees from Italian universities. We use a total immersion method that is fun and effective. Our classes are taught entirely in Italian. Class size is small, from five to twelve students.

If students are unsure which level to choose, they are welcome to talk to the staff before registering. To ensure that the class is appropriate for their skill level, students take a placement test during the first class meeting.

We have four terms throughout the year. Each term lasts ten weeks. Regular classes meet once a week. Intensive classes, offered in two sessions of five weeks each, meet twice weekly. Elementary classes are two hours long, and intermediate and advanced classes meet for three hours.

Generally, classes are structured to focus equally on grammar and conversation. The goal of each lesson is to build on students’ knowledge of language structure and strengthen their conversational skills. Check Class Description for details.

Students who miss a class may attend another session during the same week as a makeup. As a courtesy, students should inform the office or the teacher in advance.
