You will read along with your classmates high Italian literature novels, written by renowned Italian novelists, discussing their main points exclusively in Italian, under the guidance of your expert teacher Martina.
In this session, students will read the novel “Giulia 1300 ed altri miracoli“, by Fabio Bartolomei, a witty, heartfelt novel that follows the journey of Diego, a thirty-something man with few ambitions, as he embarks on an unconventional road trip with two unlikely friends in a dilapidated Giulia 1300 car.
Along the way, Diego and his companions, each dealing with their personal struggles and dreams, find themselves navigating the complexities of friendship, self-discovery, and life’s unexpected twists.
Bartolomei’s narrative combines humor with poignant reflections on human nature, portraying a vivid, down-to-earth view of Italy and its people. The novel captures the spirit of self-reinvention and explores how even the most ordinary lives can hold miraculous moments.
A series of 8 classes. 2 hours long, focused on studying, reading and discussing one of the main Italian classic literature novels.
In the Winter Term, the group will focus on “Se una notte di inverno un viaggiatore” by Italo Calvino.
You will read through this Classic of Italian Literature and discuss this playful, metafictional novel published in 1979, where the reader becomes the protagonist, experiencing a story within a story. The narrative follows multiple interrupted beginnings of novels, exploring themes of authorship, the nature of reading, and the relationship between fiction and reality.
Gianna will guide you in a journey of discovery of Italy, focusing each Term on a different Region or area of Italy.
The reading and short tube videos will inspire you to discuss and learn about this region and explore current Italian issues as well.
In the Winter Term you will discover the Lago Maggiore area, getting lost in the pages of the novel “La ragazza che cancellava i ricordi” by Chiara Moscardelli, a captivating blend of mystery and humor set in a small town near the Swiss border.
The story follows Olga, a 39-year-old tattoo artist known for her ability to help clients “erase” painful memories through her art. Haunted by her own past and the fear of losing her memory like her mother, Olga becomes embroiled in the disappearance of a friend, which leads her into a dangerous investigation. The novel combines elements of suspense, introspection, and sharp wit, as Olga navigates personal growth while uncovering dark secrets.
You will also revise some grammar topics, starting from the conversation that the book and videos will inspire.
Mastering Italian phonetics is the key to achieving a truly authentic accent and boosting your confidence in spoken Italian. Barbara will guide you through the nuances of Italian sounds, pronunciation, and intonation patterns that make the language so musical and distinctive.
In this course, you’ll not only learn how to pronounce words correctly, but also gain a deeper understanding of the rhythm, stress, and melody unique to Italian. Through engaging lessons, practical exercises, and personalized feedback, you’ll develop a keen ear for Italian phonetics, equipping you to understand native speakers more easily and express yourself with precision and clarity.
