You will read along with your classmates high Italian literature novels, written by renowned Italian novelists, discussing their main points exclusively in Italian, under the guidance of your expert teacher Martina.

Join us for an exclusive 9-week advanced reading group starting February 20, where we will delve into “Suburra“ by Carlo Bonini and Giancarlo De Cataldo.

This gripping political thriller exposes the intricate web of crime and corruption in contemporary Rome, weaving together the lives of mobsters, politicians, and law enforcement in a high stakes battle for power. The novel masterfully portrays the blurred lines between the criminal underworld and political elites, revealing how their interactions shape the destiny of the city and its citizens.

Guided by our experienced instructor, Martina, you’ll engage in in-depth discussions to explore the novel’s complex characters and themes, enhancing your understanding of Italian literature and culture.

Grammar workshop

The workshop is held by our teacher Francesca Lorenzon and is intended to teach what a pronoun is and its different types and uses in the Italian language.

Additional information

What is a pronoun and specifically what does it mean object pronoun? What’s the difference between direct and indirect object? And between tonic and atonic form? When do I use them and in which position?

Writing workshop

The workshop is held by our teacher Valentina Medda and is intended to learn how to write Italian expressions in daily situations.

Additional information

With our teacher Valentina, students will practice writing in Italian, in a variety of situations and communicative registers. From reserving a table at a restaurant to congratulating a colleague on a job success, from the letter accompanying a CV to a complaint about a malfunction. We will have the opportunity to use written words to describe, promote, sell, and conquer good writing ability, putting ourselves to the test in a relaxed and stimulating environment!

The Program

Each 5-week course is dedicated to one single language competence required by the official language test B1.

Classes are intended for applicants to the official test, and to anyone else interested in taking the test B1, who has already reached a level B1 of general Italian proficiency. Level B1 as defined by the European criteria corresponds to an intermediate level in most of the language schools in the US.

Though a variety of exercises proposed by the instructor, you will master and improve your language skills in the four competencies listed below.

Classes are intended for applicants to the official test, and to anyone else interested in taking the test B1, who has already reached a level B1 of general Italian proficiency.

Level B1 as defined by the European criteria corresponds to an intermediate level in most of the language schools in the US.

There will be a total of 8 classes of 1 hour each, to review and practice with key grammar points.  

Materials: summary booklet included in the course cost

Students will learn to:
- ask and give advice
- make comparisons
- express opposition, worry, eventuality, likes and preferences, opinions and more
- talk about needs and duties
- describe a picture (as required in the exam)

In the Spring Term the focus will be on Emilia Romagna with the book “Bell’abissina. Un’indagine del commissario Marino” by Carlo Lucarelli.
