Screening of “TALIEN”

First cultural event in San Francisco by AMA Unibo Alumni Association SF Bay Area with Istituto Italiano Scuola

Additional information

An exclusive event, with the director Elia Mouatamid as special guest, who will present his film TALIEN.

Talien is a road movie that tells the story of Aldo and Elia. Aldo is 60 years old, Moroccan, actually named Abdelouahaba, who has been living in Italy for thirty-six years; Elia is his son, 34 years old, and he has been living in Italy for over 33 years. The son accompanies his father on the journey back to their homeland: Morocco. A road movie where memories and stories lead us to a delicate reflection on the themes of family, cultural identity, immigration, and the changing mentality of Europe.

The director Mouatamid will be introduced by Luca Capponi, an Italo-Ecuadorian director who now lives in the Bay Area and attended the University of Bologna.

The event is free of charge, but please note that space is limited, so register soon.

 

Elia Mouatamid Biography

Elia Mouatamid was born in Fes, Morocco, on December 25, 1982. His father, Abdelouahab, was one of the early pioneers of migration to Italy in the early 1980s, leaving his homeland for Rovato, in the province of Brescia. Mouatamid grew up in the Padanian context, in an Italian setting vastly different from today’s, where foreigners were more of a curiosity than a problem.

In 2001, he graduated as a mechanical technician, and his professional career began with a job as a quality manager in a metalworking company in the Brescia area. From his father, he inherited many passions, especially for mechanics and photography, which led him to develop an interest in moving images and, subsequently, in the language of cinema.

In 2006, he participated in a local festival with an amateur short film titled “KLANdestino,” addressing intercultural themes, a central theme in his subsequent works.

Passionate about theater and to better understand the actor’s dimension, Mouatamid enrolled in the Voice Academy of Brescia and completed his three-year training in 2011. Since then, he has participated in various shows as an actor while continuing to direct his cinematic projects. His short film “GAIWAN” (2015) has been featured in over 70 festivals, winning more than 25 awards. His first feature-length documentary won the Special Jury Prize at the Turin Film Festival.

Music conversation

A discussion, guided by teacher Mattia Milone, on the lyrics by the milanese perfomer and songwriter Giorgio Gaber.

Ascoltiamo un album – Giorgio Gaber, Il signor G (1970)

Giorgio Gaber was a talented Italian pop musician and a tv star in the 1960s, when he composed tongues in cheek songs, and collaborated with many famous artists. In 1970, he escapes mainstream showbusiness in order to engage social themes presented in a new form of entertainment: teatro canzone. Every tour around Italy takes place in smaller venues and tells a different story, introducing different aspects of a society which was undergoing radical changes. Signor G. is the debut album of Gaber’s new career. Il signor G. tells the story of a man like many others who tries to fit into his own life. “G” as “Gente”. Il signor G. is not just one person, he is all of us.
