Music conversation

A discussion, guided by teacher Mattia Milone, on the lyrics by the milanese perfomer and songwriter Giorgio Gaber.

Ascoltiamo un album – Giorgio Gaber, Il signor G (1970)

Giorgio Gaber was a talented Italian pop musician and a tv star in the 1960s, when he composed tongues in cheek songs, and collaborated with many famous artists. In 1970, he escapes mainstream showbusiness in order to engage social themes presented in a new form of entertainment: teatro canzone. Every tour around Italy takes place in smaller venues and tells a different story, introducing different aspects of a society which was undergoing radical changes. Signor G. is the debut album of Gaber’s new career. Il signor G. tells the story of a man like many others who tries to fit into his own life. “G” as “Gente”. Il signor G. is not just one person, he is all of us.

The book for this book Club is “La ricetta segreta“. Enrico returns to his home in the mountains. He can’t wait to meet his old friend, Mr. Barbarano, a retired chemist, but finds that his friend has been kidnapped. With Camilla’s help he begins to investigate. A story full of suspense and twists: an authentic mystery.

Students will read the book in Italian Prior to the Meeting. During the meeting, with instructor Mattia Milone, students will be discussing themes, characters, and plot of the book.

Event will be in Italian only, level recommended: ELEMENTARY

On Friday December 15th, Mark Middlebrook from PortoVino Imports and Emilia Aiello from Cittavino & Co. will pour Vini Pregiati- Esteemed Italian Wines. They have selected lesser known older vintages to demonstrate the delicious aging potential of Italian wine, North to South, as well as examples of powerful and age worthy Italian whites and innovative bubbles from the region of Emilia. Prepare yourself for a truly special and uncommon tasting event accompanied by the rare Piacentinu Ennese cheese from Enna, Sicily and Mark’s famous ragù ai funghi over polenta.
